Greetings and welcome back. Aiden, along with most of his friends, are looking forward to eighth grade. They will now be at the top of the middle school pecking order.
Enjoy your read.
CHAPTER 57
COUNTDOWN TO SCHOOL (1)
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 3
<Mayfield Middle School Athletic Field>
5:45 pm
Coach Paxton was pleased to see all of his players had arrived at the field on time for their 6:30 game. Even Vernon Wright was there. The coach figured if anybody would be late it would the new boy; not because he was new but because he appeared to have an overinflated ego. “The kid seems to think that his shit doesn’t stink,” he had confided to his assistant coach Benji Martinez on the phone that morning.
When Vernon arrived at 5:35, Paxton saw it as a good sign, especially since he knew his playing time would be limited for this game because he had only been to one practice. Titus Perry, the other player who had only one practice, had arrived at 5:30. Everyone was on the south end of the field and ready for warmups at 5:45.
While waiting for Coach Paxton to blow his whistle promptly at 5:45 to start warmups, Aiden sought out Vernon. “Hey Vernon. Ready for your first Kicker game?”
Vernon stared down at the team captain. “How about you go find a sandbox to play in?”
Aiden was not surprised by Vernon’s snarl and managed to act nonplussed. “I’ll go find one after the game. What I wanted to say is I want to ask you a question after the game.”
“Whatever. If I feel interested, I might wait to talk with you.”
“Well, it has to do with a little party I’ll be having at my house for you new guys to get to know some Mayfield guys before school starts.”
“Like I’m interested in getting to know a bunch of losers. Hmm, but on the other hand, it might just be a good idea for me to know who the losers are. I’ll think about it.” Before Aiden could respond, Coach Paxton blew his whistle and the players hustled to their warmup positions.
Their opponents, the East Olympia Wildcats, were on the north end of the field. The players on both teams kept their distance from the halfway line except to chase down a few loose balls.
At 6:25 Aiden, Lenny, and Coach Paxton met at midfield with the East Olympia coach and his two captains. Aiden and Lenny both proudly wore the red C sown on the left breast of their sky-blue uniform tops.
And at 6:45 the game began. The Kickers played a disciplined game and led 3-1 at the half. Aiden had a goal and an assist. He scored the goal on a breakaway and got the assist when he got open for a good shot but instead passed the ball to Trent, who was wide open for a great shot. Trent scored what looked like an easy goal, but he knew he was able to score the easy goal because of a great pass by Aiden, who showed the kind of talented, unselfish player he was. Nolan scored the third goal off a pass by Titus, who had entered the game at the ten-minute mark of the half.
Vernon started the second half and showed the kind of player he was by hogging the ball as much as possible. He lost it three times and rarely played in the team’s offensive formations. Coach Paxton finally got tired of watching him play. He could see a change in attitude on the field, which was reflected in the 3-3 score. He sent Mason into the game as a substitute for Vernon.
Vernon stomped off the field, angry that he was substituted for even though he had played only half of his allotted time. He sat on the bench and sulked.
But with Vernon out of the game, the team played with more confidence as they once again knew what their roles were on the field. The result was a great play at the one-minute mark. After crossing the halfway line, Mason fed Aiden with a perfect pass that he handled on the run. Aiden then saw Nolan open ahead of him. Aiden hit his lover with a pass. Nolan deked the defender and kicked a bullet to the left of the keeper and into the goal, making the score 4-3 with less than a minute left to play. That ended up being the final score as the Mayfield Kickers defeated the East Olympia Wildcats and opened the season with a victory.
After the obligatory handshakes, the team met with the coaches at the Kickers’ bench. Coach Paxton congratulated his team on keeping their poise when things got tight in the second half and getting their focus back to win the game. He mentioned how well they passed the ball, and he did not say what he felt regarding the negative impact Vernon had during his time on the field. That would be something for him to discuss with Vernon one-on-one. He pointed out that three of their four goals came off an assist, which was a sign that they were working to be a good team. He reminded them that the next practice wouldn’t be until Wednesday so they could all enjoy the Labor Day holiday.
After ending the meeting, Coach Paxton walked among the departing players, complimenting many on their hard work and team play. He told Aiden and Lenny that he wanted to meet with them before Wednesday’s practice for a captain’s meeting. Aiden and Lenny knew that, as team captains, they were expected to arrive for practices and games earlier than the usual 15 minutes early. He also told Vernon he would like to meet with him a half-hour before practice to discuss his goals for him.
“Whatever,” was all the grumpy player had to say.
He saw Aiden was waiting for him. He expected the little dweeb was going to yell at him for something to prove that even though he was a dweeb, he was the team captain, which gave him permission to boss him around. Instead, Aiden told him something completely different.
Aiden felt nervous standing next to Vernon since the new player was not making it easy for people to like him. He had heard a couple of complaints after the team meeting about Vernon’s selfish play. “I’m having a party for Titus on Saturday because he’s a new kid. I didn’t know about you because I didn’t meet you until our last practice. I want to invite you to come to the party, too, now that we know you.”
“For real?” Vernon asked. He wasn’t used to being asked to parties, especially team parties.
“Yeah, for real.”
“I won’t know anybody there.”
“That’s the idea of the party. Most of the Kickers will be there, but some will be away for the weekend. There will be a few guys who’ll be in the eighth grade and are friends of a lot of us.”
“No girls?”
“No girls. It’s a guy party. We have a swimming pool, and the weather should be okay.” In deference to the new boys, Aiden told everyone that swimming suits would have to be worn. They newbies could be introduced to clothing optional parties in the spring. Naked would be okay in the shower and in the back room.
Vernon wasn’t excited about going to a party with his teammates. If they were like his teammates in Rockford, they probably wouldn’t like him. To Vernon, his Rockford teammates had all been envious of him and the fact that he was a way better player than they were. He knew they were jealous because they accused him of being selfish and not a team player. They refused to acknowledge that if it wasn’t for him, they would be worse than they already were. The reason why he had quit the basketball team last year was because his so-called teammates and his loser of a coach all got mad because they thought he shot too much. The way he saw it was that the problem with that team is that he didn’t shoot enough. After one game it began to look like Mayfield wasn’t going to be any better.
“Hey, thanks for the invitation, dude, but my family has plans for Saturday and I won’t be around,” Vernon lied.
“That’s cool. Maybe some other time,” Aiden said.
“Yeah, whatever. We’ll see.” Vernon turned and walked away before he had to deal any more with the dweeb. ‘Like, what kind of soccer team has not one, but two, dweeb captains, and do I really want to be a part of it?’ he thought.
Even though Aiden had asked him to join him when he met with Vernon, Lenny said he would watch from a distance. Lenny was still getting used to being elected a team captain. After all, he was a seventh grader on a mostly eighth grade team.
The players had elected both captains knowing that two players would be elected and that Coach Paxton and Coach Martinez decided who would be the lead captain and who would be the co-captain. They named Aiden the lead captain, based both on his superior leadership skills and the fact that he was an eighth grader which made Lenny the co-captain. The team, as well as Lenny, was surprised he was elected; not because he wasn’t capable, but because he was a seventh grader. But, they were the ones who elected him, so what could they say? The coaches were stunned by Lenny’s election because of his grade. But, they had to acknowledge that he showed first rate leadership capabilities.
“Well, is he coming?” Lenny asked when Aiden came over to him.
“Nope. He said he had a family thing planned.”
“Do you think he was telling the truth?”
“All I think is what I know,” Aiden said. “And what I know is he that he won’t be coming.”
“Well, that makes three players from the team who won’t be coming,” Lenny said. “But we knew the others weren’t coming because they told us they’d be away on family trips.” The other two were Elwood Lively and Rusty O’Rourke, who would be away on camping trips with their families.
Lenny and Aiden walked to the dugout and grabbed their equipment bags. “I’ll see you on Saturday,” Lenny said.
“If not before.”
“That would mean I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Good guess, Sherlock.”
“Well, it was kind of a no duh thing. I bet even Lance could have figured that out.”
Aiden loaded his bag into the back of the Odyssey and then buckled himself into the back seat. “Good game, kid,” Larry said as he shifted the car into drive.
“Thanks. The whole team played a good game. But it looks like Vernon needs to learn what the word team means,” Aiden said.
“Or maybe he just needs to have some more practices with the team. It has to be tough trying to get into the flow of a game after just one practice with the team.”
“I guess that’s a good point. But it would help if he was a nicer dude though.”
“As captains, you and Lenny, with the help of your teammates, need to do your best to get him to learn what the expectations are and convince him to work hard to meet them.”
“I know everybody will do their best because we all want what’s best for the mighty Kickers. Plus, I know we’ll get plenty of help from our coaches, too.”
“Did you invite him to the party?” Larry asked.
“Yeah. But after thinking about it he said his family was doing something and he couldn’t come.”
“That’s too bad. That party would have been a great way for him to get to know everybody.”
<Miller Residence>
When they got home, they found Phil sitting in his favorite chair watching the Mariners playing the Salt Lake City Bees at Salt Lake City. Phil had arrived at Aiden’s game just before the half because of his work schedule and left for home as soon as the game ended. Aiden stood behind the chair, draped his arms over his dad’s chest and gave him an arm hug.
“Congratulations on a good opening day win,” Phil said.
“Thanks dad. What’s the score?”
“Didn’t you have the game on the radio in the car?”
“We had some other stuff to talk about,” Aiden said.
“Like the play of your new kid?”
“Titus played great. He even got an assist.”
“No, I meant Vernon.”
“I knew that,” Aiden grinned. “And yeah, that’s who we talked about.” He looked at the TV screen and saw that the Mariners had a 7-5 lead in the bottom of the ninth. Mario Diaz, the Mariner closer, was on the mound with two outs and a man on first. Harlan Boyd, the Bees’ first baseman, was just stepping up to the plate. His 42 home runs were second in the American League, so he would be a tough out.
“What’s Marty done?” Aiden asked.
“Two for four, a double, a run scored, and a walk,” Phil replied. Aiden sat in the love seat just as Larry came into the room.
“The game’s just about over,” Aiden told his pop.
Diaz got two quick strikes on Boyd and threw a curve that barely missed the plate. Boyd then swung at the next pitch and hit the ball hard up the third base line. Marty made a diving stab and snagged the ball in the webbing of his glove. He jumped to his feet and fired a perfect one-hop throw to Wade Whalen at first. Whalen handled the ball perfectly and Boyd was out by two steps. Game over.
“Whoa, great play by my big bro!” Aiden shouted. “And an awesome dig by Wade. The first place M’s rock again and so does my big bro.”
The Mariners now had an 82-56 record and a four and a half game division lead over the Las Vegas Athletics. Marty had 32 home runs, 95 RBI, and a .302 batting average. His average was seventh best in the American League. He was a leading candidate for American League Rookie of the Year honors.
“I’m gonna call my best dude, then I’ll come back down,” Aiden told his dads.
“Best dude?” Larry questioned. “I mean, your dad and I both know Nolan’s status in the Aiden hierarchy.”
“Well, if you insist, I’ll come back after I speak with my boyfriend,” Aiden said formally.
“Hey, before you go, thanks for letting me sit in my seat tonight,” Phil said.
“Sometimes it pays to help you old timers feel good about something. Now, I’m off to make that call. Oh, and don’t bother to comment about me being dressed. It is what it is. Later, dudes.” Aiden left the old timers’ game room and bolted up the stairs as fast as he was allowed to.
“When did he start sounding like a thirteen-year-old?” Phil asked.
“About the time he turned ten, only it wasn’t quite as obvious,” Larry laughed.
Even though he and Nolan weren’t allowed to make video calls, Aiden still stripped his clothes off before calling his boyfriend. “Hey, lover boy,” Nolan answered. “A smooch and a kiss for you.”
“And the same back to you, my boyfriend,” Aiden replied.
“I’m still trying to figure out why we can’t at least do video calls to each other. I mean, we see each other naked all the time.”
“My dads say it’s a matter of decorum. But more importantly, it can be considered kiddie porn”.
“That’s what my dad says, too. And if anybody knows, it should be him. Anyway, it just means seeing each naked when we’re together becomes that much cooler. And, yeah, dad explained why that wasn’t kiddie porn.”
“I figure that instead of worrying my ass over it, I’ll take what I can get, which is a gazillion times better live than seeing each other on the phone. By the way, I happen to be naked.”
“Sweet. So am I.”
“Now, about that soccer game,” Nolan said. “We win 4-3 and you score a goal and have two assists. If we were naming the player of the game, it would absolutely no doubt be you.”
“You got two goals, which is one more than I got. That would make you player of the game.”
“But you had two assists with your two goals, which totals to three points you were in on.”
“Yeah, but a goal is a goal is a goal, so there,” Aiden said.
“I’ll take your word for it,” Nolan said. “Whatever it all means, I think the Kickers are going to be a totally epic soccer team.”
“I totally agree. But, damn, we gotta do something about Vernon.”
“My dads think he just needs some practices to work his way in,” Aiden said. “I think Coach Paxton and Coach Martinez will get him in line, but I know we Kickers can all help making him a team player by showing him how it’s done.”
“Is he coming to the welcome party?”
“Nope. He said his family has something going on. But the way he said it made me think he wasn’t telling the truth. Speaking of coming to the party, are your cousins coming to the party?”
Nolan’s cousins would be visiting Friday afternoon through Sunday morning. They lived in Vancouver, Washington. “Shelby is, but Melinda doesn’t want to be the only girl since she won’t know anybody there except you and me,” Nolan said. Shelby was twelve and Melinda was fourteen. Nolan and Shelby had messed around some. Melinda was interested in getting naked with Nolan and maybe kissing some but wasn’t interested in going any further. Nolan was her cousin, after all. The idea of going to a party that was made up mostly of young teen and tween boys didn’t interest her in the slightest.
“Kalie should be there.”
“Good point. Well, they’ll be at my house by dinner time and we can talk about it then.” Nolan paused for a moment and then said, “Maybe we can get Kalie and Melinda together. I mean, they both play sports, which should give them something to talk about.”
“And, they could also talk about boys,” Aiden said.
“Good point.”
“Well, we’ve got until Saturday evening to figure something out. But right now, I want to figure out what my bed is.”
“It sounds like you’re not up for some phone sex,” Nolan said.
“Why should we do phone sex when we can have the real thing almost anytime we want it now that we’re good neighbors?”
“Because it’s fun during those other times?”
“Hmm, that’s kinda true. But, not tonight. If you were here, I’d suck the cum out of your cock. But, right now, with all that’s going on, I need to do some meditating,” Aiden said.
“Meditating? Since when did you get into meditation?”
“Since tonight.”
“Okay, whatever you say captain Aiden. I’ve been learning how your brain works since I’ve become a Mayfield dude and your neighbor. I figure Vernon has got your brain spinning and you’re going to put on some of that classical music stuff you listen to and get into some kind of a zone.”
“Wow, you’re good my love.”
“And so are you. I’ll see you tomorrow after dinner so you can meet Shelby and Melinda before the party.”
“Sounds like a plan. Good night, sleep tight, and I love you my sweet Nolan.”
“Nothing sweet about me. Being sweet is your job. Good night, sleep tight, and I love you.”
The boys made kissing sounds and disconnected. Aiden was serious about trying to meditate. The problem was he wasn’t sure how to go about it. He wondered if he was meditating when he put himself into his zone. ‘I really should ask Marty about it,’ he thought. “Or maybe ask my dads.’
Then another thought struck him. He thought about how every once in a while the music worked on his mind—classical music, of course. Sometimes, when he sat reading a book while relaxing music, like Bach or Mozart, was playing, his mind would focus entirely on the music. The feeling didn’t last long, but for a brief amount of time it was like the book and everything else in the room vanished and the only thing that existed was the music.
Aiden wondered what would happen if he didn’t open a book but sat in his favorite chair or lay on his bed with his eyes closed and started out doing nothing but listening to music. Would he end up in a zone? And would it be the same as the kind of zone he got into when playing sports? ‘Well, this just might be the night to give it a try. The worst that happens is I fall asleep.’
The question in his mind now was, what should he listen to. ‘Dudes like Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart help me to sleep more than anybody else. But I don’t want to fall asleep. I want to focus my mind on the music.’
He decided to take care of his nightly preparations for bed just in case he did fall asleep. After brushing, flossing, water picking (which his dads got him started on after giving him a birthday water pick), face washing, zit checking (none), and pissing, he went to the landing and asked for a tuck in.
Larry did the honors. “You’re heading for bed a bit early tonight.”
“I’m not ready to go to sleep yet. I want to use a piece of music to try meditating to,” Aiden said.
“Meditating? This sounds like something new.”
“Nolan agrees with me that meditating just puts a person into a different kind of zone. I want to do some experimenting and tonight is the way to start. I need to find the right music that will help me focus without putting me to sleep.”
“You might think about Beethoven, starting with his symphonies. I’m thinking you’ll find the right one before you run out.”
“That would be like meditating to the front doorbell,” Aiden said.
“Not if you pick the right piece. And you have nine symphonies to choose from. Which reminds me, I’ve started Seattle Symphony e-mails. We’ve been to Centralia and Olympia symphony concerts. They’re good, but the Seattle Symphony is a world class orchestra playing in a world class concert hall. They will be playing a Beethoven symphony the first week of October. I won’t tell you which one except to say it won’t be the Fifth.”
“Whoa, that would be great to go to.”
“I thought you’d say that. Let’s talk about it next Sunday to give you a week or so to check out what you like.”
“That sounds awesome. Maybe Nolan can come with us.”
“Or Nolan and his family,” Larry said. “Which is already taken care of.”
“Awesome. Now, I want to do a listen so I can hear it all before I get to sleep.” Aiden had listened to recordings of all of Beethoven’s nine symphonies and heard the Olympia Symphony play his Eighth Symphony. “I think I’ll start with the ‘Eroica’ tonight since I have extra time and it’s a long symphony.”
Larry smiled inwardly at the irony of Aiden’s choice; it happened to be the featured work of the Seattle Symphony concert Larry had mentioned. “Good luck on your entry into meditation by thinking of heroes and I’ll see you in the morning; unless the dishes start to rattle because you set the volume too high.”
“Pop—please!”
Larry ruffled his son’s hair and left the room. Aiden settled in to listen to Beethoven’s Symphony #3, the “Eroica” (Heroic) Symphony. He had only listened to it a couple of times. He found it to be long and complicated which would probably make it hard for him to use it as a platform for thinking deep thoughts. On the other hand, it seemed to have a story behind it, even if Aiden couldn’t figure out what that story was.
Nevertheless, he listened to the entire 45-minute work with patience rare for a young teen. The other times he had listened to it the work had essentially been background for his reading. This time he worked to put all of his concentration into it. Sometimes his mind wandered. When it did, he worked to bring the music back into focus.
Three things stood out during the course of the symphony. The first was the opening of two loud dissonant notes. The notes seemed to say he was in for a long ride, and it wasn’t going to be an easy one if he wanted to get everything he could out of it.
The second thing that stood out was the second movement, which was labeled “Funeral March”. He concluded that the hero, whoever he was, must have died, but he couldn’t figure out why he died before the symphony was halfway finished.
Thoughts of one person came to him during the movement. That person was his mother and his thoughts had to do with her reading to him in the evening before bed.
The third thing that stood out was something that had hit him hard when he had listened to the symphony before. That was the main theme to the fourth and last movement which was played in all of its glory about three quarters of the way through the movement. It had struck him as quite beautiful before, but now he could hear how it was developed during the course of the movement.
He would soon learn that what Beethoven had done was make the first part of the movement one of a theme and variations. Then as the movement drew to a close, the orchestra would explode into a magnificent playing of the theme that sent shivers down his spine along with filling him with gratitude for being able to enjoy something so beautiful in all its glory. It struck him so deeply that it felt like that theme had been written just for him.
A pounding coda finished the symphony in a display of orchestral fireworks. Aiden thought that even though the coda wasn’t as long as the Fifth Symphony it held more emotion for him.
Aiden knew he didn’t have to listen to the rest of the symphonies to find his personal meditation work. He had never had a piece of music talk to him like this one had and he wanted to delve deeper into it. And one way to do it was to learn more about it and to listen to it more so the work could tell him more about why it was heroic. One of the things he knew he wanted to learn was that if the hero died before the second movement, which was funeral movement, then what were the last two movements about?
He rose from his bed and went to his bathroom to take a piss. When he returned he said his evening prayer, saying how he was grateful for Ludwig van Beethoven writing a major work that spoke to him and was for sure going to say more. He took Horace from his shelf, cuddled it close to his bare chest and fell quickly to sleep.
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 4
< Miller Residence>
7:30 AM
Phil and Larry were eating breakfast when Aiden came down to join them. He surprised them not only by getting up early on a non-school day but by being dressed in shorts and a t-shirt.
“Oh my. You are not only up early, but fully dressed for breakfast,” Larry said. “What’s the occasion?”
“The occasion is my having a special time listening to the “Eroica”. Since Beethoven went all special for me, I decided to go all special for my dads. So, this morning you get to enjoy me in my shirt and shorts instead of my long shirt.”
‘And wearing nothing underneath that long shirt,’ was the simultaneous thought of both Larry and Phil.
“In fact, you even get to see me before you leave for work,” Aiden said.
“Which, for me, will be right now,” Phil said. He gave Aiden a quick hug around his shoulders, avoided mussing his hair, and headed for the garage. “Bye dad. Have fun at work,” Aiden called out as his dad shut the door behind him.
“Does it look like the Third is going to be the meditation symphony for you?” Larry asked.
“Pretty much. But I want to test out the three others I was thinking of using.”
“Which were?”
“Well, after giving it my final thoughts in the shower this morning, they will be the Sixth, the Seventh, and the Eighth. And I can use the time it takes for me to try each one for meditating to do some research about the Third. I want to know why the funeral march is early in the symphony and what is going on in the last two movements since the hero is dead.”
“I’m sure some creative Googling, or a visit to the town library, or both will help you find what you’re looking for,” Larry said. The Mayfield Library, which also served Kentburg and Clark Pass was part of the Timerland Library System. Timberland was a large, well-stocked system that served the communities in Lewis, Thurston, Mason, and Grays’ Harbor counties.
“That’s what I was figuring. Plus, I have that biography of Beethoven that you gave me, but it didn’t say anything about some kind of story in the ‘Eroica’.”
“Well, I can give you another source, although it won’t be available until October when we go to the Seattle Symphony concert.”
“Wait! You said it was an all-Beethoven concert and one of the pieces they were playing would be a symphony. Are you about to say that the symphony is going to be the ‘Eroica’?”
“That is exactly what I’m saying. And, to top it off, all of the Seattle Symphony concerts have a lecture about the concert that starts an hour before the concert and is given by an expert.”
“Whoa. That means he might answer my questions. And if he doesn’t maybe I can ask him after the lecture is over. I can’t wait,” Aiden said.
“Well, it is a month away, so you’ll need some patience.”
“Remember, I’ve got three other symphonies I want to test out. Now I don’t need to rush. But, I still have a feeling the ‘Eroica’ will be the one. What other Beethoven will the symphony be playing?”
“The ‘Egmont’ Overture and McKenzie Roberts will be the soloist for the Third Piano Concerto,” Larry replied. McKenzie Roberts was one of the top US pianists.
“Wow. Sounds like an awesome to the possum concert. And you said the Moyers are going with us?”
“As soon as the soccer schedule was announced we purchased six seats together. Three seats row ten, center stage on the orchestra level, and three more row toward the left side of the concert hall. Those are great seats from which to see the pianist.”
“Did you try to get that concert?” Aiden asked.
“Nope. We picked a weekend when the Kickers didn’t have a game scheduled. It just happened to work out that way. And before you ask, we didn’t get six seats together because that many weren’t available in one row. I think we were lucky to get two sets of three.”
“I figured as much. I want to sit next to Nolan if I can.”
“We can work that out later. Right now, I have to head out to an exciting faculty meeting. I’ll see you this afternoon. Remember that Mrs. Schultz will be coming at 10, so dress accordingly.” Mrs. Schultz was their housekeeper who came twice a month to do heavy cleaning.
Like Phil, Larry avoided ruffling Aiden’s hair as he started for the door.
“How come you and dad are being nice to my hair?” Aiden asked.
“Because you were so nicely combed and dressed for breakfast this morning. Now, be good.”
“I’m gonna call Nolan and see if he can come over—or if I can go over there so I’ll be out of Mrs. Schultz’s way.”
Larry went out the door and to the garage. Aiden decided to wait until after 9:00 to call Nolan. That was their agreed upon earliest time unless they had agreed on an earlier time. This wasn’t one of those mornings.
Aiden went upstairs to his bathroom and took care of his brushing his teeth. He also combed his hair very carefully since his dads were both at work and couldn’t mess it up.
He sat at his desk and booted up his computer. He searched for books on Beethoven. Of course he found quite a few. He had no desire to go searching through a pile of books to find the information on the “Eroica” he wanted to find. He decided to search “Beethoven Eroica books” and found ten titles that interested him, including a novel that mirrored the “Eroica” symphony. The blurbs about the books made most of them sound like college texts. While Aiden was an excellent reader, he didn’t feel ready for those.
He finally decided that the best thing he could do was wait and see what the symphony lecturer had to say. He figured that when he shared his book dilemma with Marty, his big bro would tell him to pause and get more information. He decided that pausing was exactly what he was going to do starting right then.
<Kalie and Gordy>
10:00 AM
Kalie rarely slept in late. She usually awoke between 7:30 and 8:30 on non-school days. But every now and then she slept in to sometime between 9:00 and 10:00. This was one of those mornings. This morning’s wake up time was 9:35. Since her dad was working in the field and her mom was working in Centralia; she was on her own. She quickly showered and had some fresh fruit for breakfast.
She had just finished brushing her teeth and taking care of her hair when the doorbell sounded. Since she was naked, she grabbed her bathrobe off the hook on the bathroom door and carried it to the front window where she hoped to get a look at who was at the door. She didn’t need to bother since she recognized Gordy’s bicycle parked on the lawn.
She dropped her bathroom and started for the door. The bell rang again as she reached for the doorknob. “Yeah, yeah, yeah, I heard you the first time,” she said as she opened the door.
“I was just making sure,” Gordy said. “And wowsers, you’re naked.” Gordy was wearing a Mayfield Mustangs hoodie, a pair of shorts, and trainers.
Kalie looked down at herself and shook her head. “Hey, you’re right. I’m, like, totally naked. Hang on and I’ll go put my bathrobe on.”
“You look good to me like you are,” Gordy grinned. Before Kalie could move, Gordy opened up his shorts and pulled them and his gray boxers down to his knees. “Does this look okay to you?”
“Not quite. You’ve got to take everything off for that to happen.”
“Then let me in and I will.”
“You can’t come in until you’re totally naked like me.”
Since Kalie’s house was set half a mile from Lakeshore Road, Gordy had no problem getting naked on her front porch. He knew that her parents and older brother weren’t home. He sat on the porch couch and quickly pulled off his shoes and socks, followed by his pants and underpants. His hoodie and t-shirt came off last.
“Now I’m totally naked like you,” Gordy said.
“Well, then, come on in.”
Gordy entered the house and walked into the living room. Kalie closed the door, walked up to her boyfriend, and planted a kiss on his lips. The two young teens were quickly kissing passionately.
“Let’s go kiss in the backyard,” Kalie said.
“I would if we were at least in our undies. It’s a little cool out there. But you’re bed sounds like a good place.”
“Same with me.”
They went upstairs to Kalie’s room. “This is, like, a nice surprise,” Kalie said.
“Well, when you said you would have the house to yourself until like three or four I figured that was a hint for me to come and visit you,” Gordy said.
“I really like having a smart boyfriend.”
“I like that your boobs are growing and your chest isn’t like a boy’s anymore,” Gordy said as he massaged Kalie’s budding breasts. After fifteen minutes of kissing and playing with each other’s genitals, Gordy entered Kalie’s vagina and the two were off to the races.
What they didn’t know was that Kalie’s brother Travis, who was 21 years old and a junior at Eastern Washington University, had come into the house to get the lunches that his mom had prepared before leaving for work. He had seen Gordy’s bike and knew that Gordy was visiting Kalie. Since he didn’t see them in the house or the backyard, he figured they were probably in the back house or in Kalie’s bedroom. He decided to check the bedroom first since it was closer.
Before reaching the bedroom door he heard sounds coming from the room which told him all he needed to know. Gordy and his sister were having sex. While he couldn’t tell for sure if they were going all the way, he was reasonably certain that they were. He was sorely tempted to open the door and get a look at the two teens who were surely naked. But he knew it was the wrong thing to do, and Kalie would probably hate him forever. One thing he was sure of was that they were protected. He was positive that Kalie was on the pill and her conservative boyfriend was wearing a condom. Travis was right on both counts.
He went back downstairs sporting a rock-hard erection He grabbed the lunches and headed back to the pickup truck he had driven in from the field. If he had stayed three more minutes, he would have heard high pitched screeching that advertised the fact Kalie and Gordy had simultaneous orgasms.
“Wow, that was awesome. I bet Autumn never had it this good,” Kalie grinned. “That’s the best orgasm ever.
Gordy, who not long ago was reluctant to even show his penis to anyone, felt very grown up. “It was super epic for me, too.” He silently thanked his best friend, Aiden, for teaching him about kissing and using his cock.
“I can’t wait to do it again.”
“Well, it won’t be today. I’d better jet before your brother comes back or your mom gets home. Or worse, your dad gets home.”
“Don’t worry about Travis. I bet he knows we were doing it and was nice enough not to open the door and catch us. But even if he did catch us, he wouldn’t tell my ‘rents. I know he was 14 the first time he did it with a girl,” Kalie said.
The teens dressed and shared a long kiss. Gordy went out the front door, got on his bicycle, and pedaled for home. He thought about stopping at Aiden’s and sharing what had just happened between him and Kalie. But he was pretty sure Aiden would be going to Nolan’s house. He entertained the thought of riding to Nolan’s house and then decided to ride home and call Miles or Mason to see if they wanted to come to his house and ride their bikes into town to see what was going on at the town park.
<Aiden and Nolan>
10:30
When Aiden reached Nolan’s house and hopped off his bike, Nolan was waiting for him on the front porch. Aiden set his bike on its kickstand and Nolan zipped off the porch. The two boys traded a tight hug and a long, deep kiss. Since Nolan’s parents were at work, they felt safe going beyond a mere hug. In fact, they felt the long, deep kiss was required.
The boys walked into the house and sat next to each other on the couch in the family room. “Are your dads okay with you leaving the housekeeper alone in the house?” Nolan asked.
“She’s not alone; her niece is helping her,” Aiden replied.
“You know what I mean. Can she be there unsupervised. You know you can be the densest boyfriend in Mayfield sometimes.”
“And you know it’s one the reasons I love you so much.”
Nolan reached over and rubbed the bulge in his boyfriend’s shorts. “This is an even bigger reason. Warning! Continued rubbing of this boy’s sexual organ can make him very horny.”
“That’s just what I wanted to have happen. But first, you have to take your hand away from my not-so-privates so I can answer your question,” Aiden said.
“What question is that?”
“You’re as dense as I am, so no more complaining about density. Mrs. Schultz—that’s our housekeeper by the way—usually works when nobody is home. She has a key and the alarm code, so it’s all good. In fact, I’m willing to bet she’s happy I left after she came. Her niece is a junior at Meadow Park High and isn’t bad looking for a person of the female species. Her name is Rose Hancock.”
“I recognize that name. She’s a pretty good softball and basketball player. Her brother, Brad, is a grade ahead of us and is a pretty good athlete, too.”
“I figured you’d know them, which is why I mentioned her name. Did you ever see him naked?”
Nolan gave Aiden a light punch on his left arm. “Damn you have a dirty mind for a middle school dude.”
“Are you joking with me? Dang, I almost have a clean mind for a middle school dude. And speaking of dirty minds, look where your hand has ended up…again.”
Nolan wiggled his fingers against Aiden’s hard member. “Mom’s due home at three, so let’s get to it. If dad hadn’t shut the pool down, we could do it in the water.”
“Ours is still heated,” Aiden pointed out. “We could give Rose a thrill.”
“What about her aunt?”
“She’ll be busy mopping the kitchen.”
“Are you serious or are you yanking my chain again?”
Aiden answered by grabbing Nolan’s tool through his shorts. “Well, it’s not exactly a chain but I’d say it’s made out the same kind of metal.”
At that point the boys ran up to Nolan’s room and shed all their clothes. “Fuck me, dude. It will help make me mentally ready for Monday night,” Nolan said. Monday night was the night Aiden would be a bottom for the first time as a teenager.
“I’m happy to help the sexual mentality of my boyfriend.” The two teens kissed and rubbed and licked and petted and nibbled until Aiden announced he was ready.
Nolan pulled a tube of lube out of his dresser drawer, lubed Aiden and himself up, and offered his smooth athletic ass up for a hard fucking. Aiden shoved his four-and-a-half-inch cock up Nolan’s ass and the inevitable result came quickly.
After the boys settled down, Aiden asked about Nolan’s cousin Shelby. “Are you still gonna take his cherry tomorrow night?”
“That’s the plan. But Shelby isn’t the big time horn dog that so many Mayfield boys are.”
“You need to give him some Mayfield water to help him out.”
“Yeah, like as soon as he comes through the door,” Nolan grinned. “Hell, I should have mailed him a bottle to get him ready. And before you ask, I’ll be royally ready to fuck your ass Monday night.”
“How about we go from our favorite subject and do something with your second favorite subject,” Aiden said.
“You mean the trains?”
“Nothing like running a model railroad to restore the energy level.”
“Dressed or naked?”
“Naked, of course. But let’s take our clothes with us, no matter what. And we get dressed at three if we aren’t already.”
“Before we go, there are sandwiches made up begging to be eaten,” Nolan said.
“Why didn’t you say so earlier. If I’d known that I would have had sandwich and fucked you even harder.”
“Bragger.”
The boys each enjoyed a roast beef sandwich and a glass of milk and headed to the model railway room to enjoy operating trains on the big HO layout until around ten to three. Since Nolan was expecting his Aunt Cindy and Uncle Chris along with his cousins Shelby and Melinda to arrive sometime between three and four, he decided it was a good time to put their clothes on and tie down the trains. Plus, his mother was due home around 3:30.
The house phone rang at 3:15. Nolan picked up the phone and was greeted by his cousin Melinda. She told him that they were about a half hour out.
“Thanks for the call. We’ll be ready for you”, Nolan said.
“Hey Sugar Bear, nice timing for getting dressed,” Aiden grinned.
“Are you going to hang around to meet them?”
“Well, duh. It’s better to meet them here than when they come to my house with a bunch of our friends there. It will make it easier for the host to introduce them.”
“You got that right, Sweet Cakes. And with the help of their awesome cousin,” Nolan grinned.
“In fact, it should be your show. Let’s see, Shelby is 12 and Melinda is, what, 14?”
“You got it.”
Nolan’s mother, Vivian made it home on time. She gave Aiden a nice hug and told him how happy she was to see him.
The Vancouver branch of the Moyer family arrived at 3:50. Nolan introduced Aiden to the family, telling them that Aiden was his best friend ever. He decided he wouldn’t come out to them in front of his mother, even though he and Aiden had come out to her and Nolan’s dad. It was what his dad called good decorum. He would come out to his cousins later and let his mom know in private what he had done.
After the introductions and he and Nolan talking about what would be happening at Aiden’s house the next day, Aiden said his good-byes and headed home on his bike.
Cindy and Chris would be staying at the Mayfield Inn. Melinda would be sleeping in the guest room and Shelby would be sleeping on a cot in Nolan’s room; at least on the first night of the three night stay.
After Aiden arrived home, he got thinking about the Welcome to Mayfield party he would be hosting the next day. He wondered if Vernon would come. Either way he wouldn’t be surprised.
Nolan and his cousins played games and watched TV with the adults. By ten o’clock they were all tired and ready to crash. Nolan knew they would have plenty of time for fun the next couple of days.
